Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty:

Dr. Herzog has performed thousands of knee replacements, from the very simple to extremely complex. He has experience using computer navigation and robotics, tailoring the surgical approach and technology available to the specific patients’ needs.

Partial or Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty:

Dr. Herzog has been performing partial knee replacements for the past 12 years. This is a less invasive, but less commonly performed surgery where only one of the three compartments of the knee joint is replace or resurfaced, typically the medial (inside) compartment of the tibial-femoral joint. This can be an excellent procedure for the right patient, but the selection criteria can be strict.

Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty:

Dr. Herzog has specialized fellowship training and experience in the revision of painful or "failed" total knee replacements. This involves safe removal of implants and reimplantation of a properly placed, secure new prosthesis to ensure a stable and pain free knee. Reasons for failure may be acute or chronic knee pain related to components placed in the wrong position, loosening of the implants, knee instability or prosthetic joint infection.

Total Hip Arthroplasty:

Dr. Herzog has specialized training in total hip arthroplasty and has performed thousands of hip replacements for patients all around the country. He has been utilizing direct anterior approach total hip replacement via a minimally invasive incision since 2015. His prior experience utilized posterior approach as well as direct lateral approach to the hip but after seeing the benefits of a "direct anterior" or anterior surgical approach to the hip he has not gone back.

Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty:

Dr. Herzog has fellowship training in hip revision arthroplasty. This involves safe removal and re-implantation of a stable and well functioning hip prosthesis. Reasons for hip revision can be related to loosening of hip implants, hip instability aka recurrent prosthetic hip dislocations, improperly placed implants, metallosis or inflammatory reactions from metal on metal articulations or corrosion, and prosthetic hip joint infections.

Knee Arthroscopy:

He has experience in knee arthroscopy for sports related and degenerative knee conditions such as partial debridement or repair of meniscal tears, loose body removal, articular cartilage debridement and micro-fracture.

Surgical Fracture Care:

For a total joint surgeon, Dr Herzog has had the rare experience of covering high volume trauma in busy centers as well as high volume ski and snowboard related trauma. He has specific experience in treating higher energy lower extremity fractures, hip fractures, ankle ORIF, Femoral nailing, both bone forearm fractures. Application of external fixators.
